Dental Implants

What is a dental implant?

An implant is a biocompatible titanium post placed in the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Once it has fused with the bone, a crown is placed on top, giving you the closest result to a natural tooth in both function and appearance.

Benefits

  • There is no need to reshape healthy neighboring teeth.
  • It slows bone loss and helps preserve your facial contours.
  • It provides stable, strong chewing and, with proper care, lasts a very long time.

The treatment process

  1. Examination and 3D CT scan: The bone structure is measured and the implant position is planned.
  2. Placement: The implant is placed under local anesthesia in a procedure that is usually painless.
  3. Healing: A temporary tooth can be worn during the 2–3 month period while the implant fuses with the bone.
  4. Restoration: Impressions are taken and the implant crown is attached.

Who is not a candidate?

Uncontrolled diabetes, certain bone diseases and heavy smoking can affect success. Your general health is evaluated during the examination; if needed, additional procedures such as bone grafting can make implant treatment possible.
