Prosthetic Treatments
What is a dental prosthesis?
A dental prosthesis consists of artificial teeth that replace missing ones. A fixed or removable prosthesis is chosen based on the number of missing teeth, the condition of the remaining teeth and the jawbone.
Types of prostheses
- Fixed bridge: A non-removable prosthesis supported by the teeth on either side of the gap.
- Complete denture: A removable denture used when all teeth are missing.
- Partial denture: A removable denture that clasps onto the remaining teeth when several teeth are missing.
- Implant-supported denture: A removable denture that snaps onto implants and is far more stable.
Getting used to it
It may take a few weeks to get used to speaking and chewing with a new prosthesis. If you notice sore spots or discomfort, the prosthesis can be adjusted at a quick follow-up visit.
Care tips
Removable dentures should be taken out and brushed after every meal, left out overnight to rest your gums and cleaned with denture cleaning tablets.
