Dental Fillings
When is a filling needed?
Once decay passes through the enamel into the layer beneath, it does not heal on its own. The decayed tissue is removed and the resulting cavity is sealed with filling material. Filling a cavity early can prevent the need for root canal treatment.
Composite (tooth-colored) fillings
Tooth-colored composite fillings bond to the tooth, strengthen the remaining structure and are virtually invisible. We do not use amalgam (silver) fillings; old amalgam fillings can also be replaced on request.
Inlays and onlays
For back teeth with extensive structural loss, porcelain inlays and onlays made in the laboratory or with digital systems offer a more durable solution.
After a filling
- Do not eat until the numbness wears off.
- Mild sensitivity to cold in the first few days is normal.
- If your bite feels high, it can be corrected at a quick follow-up visit.
