Zirconia Crowns
What is a zirconia crown?
A zirconia crown is made with a white, extremely strong ceramic framework instead of metal. Because it transmits light like a natural tooth, it looks very natural, especially on front teeth, and does not cause a dark line at the gums.
When is it recommended?
- Discolored, fractured or worn teeth
- Weakened teeth with large fillings or previous root canal treatment
- Correcting gaps between teeth and shape irregularities
- Bridges and implant crowns for missing teeth
The treatment process
- Examination and planning: X-rays and an intraoral examination are performed, and a shade that suits your smile is selected.
- Tooth preparation: Under local anesthesia, the teeth are prepared for the crowns, impressions are taken and temporary crowns are placed.
- Try-in and bonding: The crowns made in the laboratory are tried in, and once the fit is confirmed, they are permanently bonded.
Treatment is usually completed within 5–7 business days.
How do I care for them?
Zirconia crowns are brushed and flossed just like natural teeth. Avoiding biting hard objects (nutshells, ice) and coming in for a checkup every 6 months will extend their lifespan.
